All of New England's towns were set up the same way or in a similar way. A town usually had a meetinghouse in the middle of the town. The meetinghouse was where people went to worship and there were town meetings where male landowners met. If there were more than 50 families in the town, there had to be a primary education. A primary education is basically elementary school. If there were more than 100 families in the town, there had to be a secondary education. A secondary education is basically middle school. Also, each town had to have a town common. The town common was a open area where the livestock grazed. If towns were near the coast, they had ports where ships came and went.
